OUR VISIT TO SHELBY AMERICAN

One of the highlights of the trip to Vegas was getting to go to Carol Shelby's shop. Shelby American and Finish Line Racing operate from this facility. Kent from Brembo was with us to pick up some Brembo stuff for the SVSi booth, while Junior was checking on the shipment of brand new Carbon Fiber Viper body parts for display at VOI5.

Everywhere you looked there were pieces of Shelby history. Here are a couple of rare Mustang Cobras. Off to the side a Shelby Dodge Shadow.

Each vehicle in the showroom was something rare and unique. I could hardly control myself.  On this wall a very rare and valuable Cobra line up.

An early, rare ex-racer rests at home.

Here is an all aluminum bodied rare '66 428 Cobra. There were very few made with 428's installed. You couldn't help but notice the LARGE sign asking you not to lean on the aluminum body. The goose bumps grew.

In the showroom was a mock up Series 1 shell. One of Shelby's road managers drove the Series 1 to the track every day during VOI5. I was lucky to get a wave from Caroll himself the only day he drove to the track. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera.

As we walked down the office hall towards the shop, I peaked in every office looking for the man himself, but no luck.

Here is a finished Cobra SC 427, just waiting for a new home. How about coming home with me?

The back shop area. Shelby Cobra City. There were Cobra SC's being built everywhere. Here is what looked like a finshed SC frame. Wow.

Bodies being fitted to the frames.

More chassis's waiting for bodies and drivetrains. Note the installed suspension and brakes.

Now heeerre is the REAL stuff!!  Race car.

The mechanics around probably laughed at the moans I emitted when I saw this one. This looked like Finish Line Motorsports racer. I would have liked to hear this run the track at LVMS!! I could only dream of driving it...
