There was some questions raised about a restart after the turn 1 spin out, but the race went on uninterrupted. Junior runs away with the lead. Somebody flat spot's some tires breaking hard in turn 11 in the background!
Junior held the lead for a while until Jim Minneker in the supercharged Mallet C5 started catching up.
Minneker took Junior in turn 11, and as you see it, it was a drag race down the front stretch, with the SVS RT/10 reclaiming 1st mid-straight. The excitement was great.
By the next lap Minneker had Junior with him leading into turn 11 and down the front stretch.
Here they exit into turn 1.
Junior layed back a bit and watched Jim's lines. Here Minneker gets a mirro full of Viper Carbon Fiber.
As I looked for a better camera position, Junior had reclaimed the lead and flew past me.
Here you can see the lead Junior pulled on the Vette. There were later reports of brake wear with the C5.
THE WINNER! (Finally..after a bad losing streak)
Second place Jim Minneker in the Mallet Vette (background) and third place Chris Barone in the 44 GTS.
Frank Parise in the #45 Dessert Venom GTS with 4th place.
Some after race discussions and laughs with SVSi and the Mallet guys. Everyone seemed to have a great time at the first Viper Days
Viper/Vette War.
