Tomy Super G Plus Hop Up Tips by Greg Williams 1.)
On the SG+ pickup shoe holder assembly, take the part that sticks down for the pickup shoe and fold it back to allow lowering of the ride height. This also moves the pickup shoe back a little. Make sure the shoe still moves freely.
(See Pick-up Shoe Tuning Tips Below!)
2.)
Take the part at the top that goes over the chassis and where the pickup shoe spring rests. Straighten it out to where it is sticking straight out towards the front of the chassis. Then bend it down to where it will cinch up tight on the chassis and then bend again to go over the pickup shoe spring hole. This way you can remove the motor assembly without having the pickup holder flopping all over the place.
3.) Crank the timing all the way advanced. 4.) Use a Tyco rear axle. There is a little more play but you can use the same tires for both your Tyco and LL too! 5.)
If possible reinforce the pickup shoe tabs and pin the rear axle. Scale Auto sells a "Pro" SG+ chassis all setup with this. Some very sano removable pickup shoes tabs! 6.)
Space the armature to remove most of the excessive end play. This stops the commutator from moving back and forth under the brushes. 7.)
For the Modified and Restricted Open classes a Tyco 7t pinion and Scale Auto 20 or 22 rear gear works very well. Space the gear to eliminate play in the axle. 8.)
Scale Auto Peugeot #605 or Madd's Nissan NPT-90 #M134 is a hot ticket although Dave Rothwell beat me by less than a lap in the SCHOR SpringNats Modified main with a stinking Porsche 962! AHHHHHHH! 9.)
Silver stuff everywhere! Even the endbell! (See Endbell Tuning Tips Below!) Wizzard is very good here as his silver is applied really smooth and tight. But be sure to ream the endbell bearing out as it is coated inside too! 10.)
Be very, very careful removing and inserting the motor. Spread the chassis very slowly and pop the motor up one side at a time. Go through your stash of bulkheads, the section behind the endbell and pick the narrowest ones to cut down on spreading of the chassis.
11.) Have Fun, Don't yell at marshalls, and remember that it's easy to win but character is how you lose. There'll be other races to stuff his sorry $#@ into the wall!Good Luck! |
