-** METALLICA ROCKS THE ALLSTATE ARENA IN CHICAGO!! **-

PRE-SHOW MADNESS:

What a riot. I was lucky enough to get main floor tickets to the Chicago January 4th Metallica Concert at the Allstate Arena.  It has been a while since I was at a heavy metal concert, so I had no idea what to expect.  First of all, if you weren't there, YOU MISSED IT!!  During the 45 minute intermission between Kid Rock and Metallica, the Arena was up for grabs with an unbelievable TIT SHOW in the crowd.  Spotlights highlighted many hot ladies baring their breasts, shaking and jumping for the crowd.  What a Show!!  The "winners" were a pair of leather clad babes, who dropped their tops, and proceeded to kiss and fondle each other for the crowd.  The roar was louder than applause for SevenDust!  It was a perfect show to pass the long wait for Metallica.

GET MOSHED:

We were about 5 people back from the stage through SevenDust and Kid Rock, getting slammed and crushed and passing surfers overhead.  SevenDust was hard as usual.  One funny point was when the drummer spit a hocker into the air, and it landed on the head of the lead singer.  The drummer couldn't stop laughing.  Kid Rock was great, grinding out his Southern fried Rap/Rock. He had a couple of hot, bikini-clad dancers, (presumabably from a local dance club..) swinging from their poles on stage.  Kid Rock and JC had the place jumpin' in no time.  As he sang "Bawitdaba's" lyrics; "Get in the pit and try and love someone", the crowd became nearly intolerable if you weren't a mosher.  We would yell "Incoming" every time a surfer would come our way, or else you'd get a boot in the head. (like me..)  When Metallica finally came onto the stage blasting "Die, Die, My Darling", it was all we could do to get back farther and away from the insane moshing that started immediately.  This was the worst I had ever been smashed in a crowd. People would push from all directions, and you could only 'ride the wave'.  We were lucky to even get pictures!!  The sweat ran down my head as my buddy grabbed me from the back, and we bulldozed our way back about 50 feet to clear from the moshing madness, literally falling over people.  Finally we found an open spot where we could actually breathe.  From further back, we watched many articles of clothing fly through through the spotlights, including shirts, jackets, bra's, and even SHOES!  INCOMING!!   There were actually two mosh pits going, with bashing, shirtless, sweaty maniacs everywhere.

THE SHOW:

Metallica sounded awesome, and played many great songs from old and new.  It was SO LOUD!  Lars' bass drum pounded my chest with fury.  James, Kirk, and Jason pierced my ears with one wicked chord after another.  James' custom guitars were the best!!  Metallica always does their best to play for everyone at the show, frequenting the back of the stage often for the fans behind the stage.  At one point after a small intermission, an older woman walked up to Lars' drum kit and jumped into the drivers seat and pumped put a couple of beats.  I was thinking it might have been his Mom, but still don't know who it was..??  They played for over 2 ½ hours, with 5 or 6 final oncores.  The piles of pyro-techniques blasted all night, with "One" having the best light and 'BOMB' show.

...My hearing finally returned to somewhat normal about 2 days later.....
