Junior and Allen traded second place numerous times, with Junior finally getting the lead over Allen in what was probably some of the most intense door-to-door racing action of the Viper Days events to date.

Shortly after Junior got second position, the caution lights came on, and the race was red flagged.  Tragically, Fat Albert Box lost control and slid into an infield wall, heavily damaging his beautiful Dessert Venom GTS.

Good thing for the tire barrires.  Box was OK, and was able to drive the GTS back to the pits.

The red flag stop, combined with the intense heat during the day forced Skips RT/10 to overheat, sadly causing him to retire for the day.  The race restart was a 7 lap shoot out for the finish.  The restart allowed everyone to get their positions back.  Good news for some, bad for others.

Bob Woodhouse again maintained his lead in first with Junior following behind in second.  Allen dropped back, apparently due to tires going away.  Snelten came from behind in 4th.

The 1-2 winners for the Sunday race.  Here they come into the pits upon finshing the grueling 30 lap race.

I didn't catch it, but apparently Allen missed a turn in the Venom near the end of the race, and was penalized with a stop and go penalty, allowing Dave Snelten to take third place.

CONGRATULATIONS to Bob Woodhouse for taking the checkered flag at the Gateway Viper Days Race.  Bob and his GTS have established a very respectable winning record for the 1999 Viper Days season, and promises to be a continued threat in the up and coming races remaining with his very fast Unlimited  GTS.

Unfortunately the weekend took it's toll on some at the event.  The boys from the Dessert Venom pack really took a beating with two cars suffering heavy damage from mishaps on the track.  Sam Krauss also fell victim to a wall late Sunday afternoon during Challenge Runs.  Fortunately nobody was hurt!  Better luck next time guys...
